Course: Well Testing and Unsaturated Zone
The objective of this course is to provide the basic methods necessary to study and interpret the flow around the wells and in the unsaturated zone . Well Hydraulics (AF1) - 12h C & TD 1. Interpretation of aquifer tests in steady-state flow 2. Interpretation of aquifer tests in unsteady-state flow - aquifer with infinite horizontal extent or laterally bounded by recharge or impermeable limits 3. Evaluation of well loss Flow and transport in the unsaturated zone (AF2) - 12h C 4. Characterisation of media and phenomena (definition, fundamental concepts, functional relationships, spatial variation of properties, methods and devices to evaluate soil parameters, ...) 5. Conceptual aspects of flow and transport in unsaturated media (continuity equation, diffusivity equation, infiltration, analytical solutions of the diffusivity equation, migration of contaminants, ...) 6. Unsaturated zone hydrology: measurements and modelling of soil water balance 7. Multi-scale aspects (definition, techniques, parameterisation, scaling factors for cumulative infiltration and/or evaporation, ...). Develop skills in heat transfer and apply to supports with complex structures such as porous media. The examples studied will be applied to energy problems such as thermal insulation, use of heat via heat exchangers, geothermal energy. Heat transfer in Porous Media & Geothermal (AF2) - 12h C 4. Petrophysics of rocks and thermal transfert (REV and upscaling) 5. geothermal gradient, heat and temperatures 6. Typology of geothermie(s) : Low, medium and high enthalpy 7. Case study - EGS system
