PEES9AD

Transfer processes in multiphase media

Duration :
21 hours

ECTS Credits : 2

Semester : S9

Person(s) in charge :

Hervé Combeau, Professor, herve.combeau@univ-lorraine.fr

Keywords : Transfers between phases, multiphase flow, boiling, condensing

Prerequisites : Transport phenomena, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics

Objective:

Coupled transfers with or without phase change

Programm:

Transfers in polyphase media are current themes that concern large industrial production processes, or energy use, as well as the environmental sector.

In fact, industrial processes operate in polyphase systems more and more in order to increase selectivity, decrease reaction time (combustion, for example) and improve product separation (fluidized-bed catalytic reactor, scrubbers, etc.). Moreover, these flows appear during heat transfers with phase changes, notably with evaporation and condensation.

Students apply the knowledge they acquire during practical work and tutorials.

Content:

  • Introduction
    • Industrial interests, examples.
    • Open questions in research and development.
    • Presentation of course program.
    • Different types of flow, state diagrams.
    • Introduction to bubble column used in practical work.
    • Distribution of articles to students.
