Program and content : This ARTEM Lab offers to explore the various aspects of glass, its industrial or handmade manufacturing process on the one hand, and on the other hand its use through interdisciplinary approaches in architecture, design and art. The study of several main techniques - the hand-blown glass, the glass paste, the casting technique on the one hand, flat glass working (thermoforming, fusing, bending...) on the other hand - allows to deal with different spatial layouts. The point is to explore what new prototyping tools can bring to art and design, especially about glass, at different scales, with regards to the methods, design, representation, economy in fabrication. Those different uses of a material seem closely complementary, and their joint understanding will allow students to master several techniques and design approaches. This lab will be divided into three units:
