Overall objective

Vocabulary development and grammar revision. An introduction to English in the professional context. An introduction to the different parts of the external English examination.

Course content and organisation

Students continue the development of their lexical and grammatical skills in English, as well as their cultural knowledge in order to be ready for the external English examination to be taken durning their final semester at Mines Nancy. Authentic supporting material (written, audio and video) is adapted and used in the classroom to develop students’ skills.

An introduction to the different tasks of IELTS examination is included in the course. The two teachers are responsible for different parts of the test and also spend time working on the necessary method and technique required to do well. Students practise the different exercises in class and as independent work.

A series of classes is also dedicated to the application process (CV, letter, interview) and continues with role plays, teamwork, presentations all dedicated to these various situations.
