Coupled transfers with or without phase change
Transfers in polyphase media are current themes that concern large industrial production processes, or energy use, as well as the environmental sector.
In fact, industrial processes operate in polyphase systems more and more in order to increase selectivity, decrease reaction time (combustion, for example) and improve product separation (fluidized-bed catalytic reactor, scrubbers, etc.). Moreover, these flows appear during heat transfers with phase changes, notably with evaporation and condensation.
Students apply the knowledge they acquire during practical work and tutorials.
Description and operational verbs
The transfer phenomena when heat, mass and momentum are coupled and with or without phase change
The benefit of implementing transfers with phase change and the pertaining issues. The difference with single phase transfers.
Know how to size an evaporator or a condenser
Be capable of formulating the elementary phenomena that come into play in a real problem and know at least how to find the order of magnitude of these phenomena and what kind of model may lead to a solution
Be capable of bringing an innovating solution on environmental problems and issues of reducing energy consumption
